The Stasi prison in Hohenschönhausen was the operational hub for the Ministry for State Security or Stasi in the GDR.
The prison helped to coordinate the imprisonment and interrogation of the political prisoners of the GDR from 1951 to 1989. It is estimated that more than 91,000 full-time Stasi employees and 189,000 unofficial employees maintained close, repressive surveillance of the East German population.
The series "Ghosts" deals with this political control and power. The viewer becomes a lonely spectator in front of an empty stage that remains without actors. Without any pathos, objective and distanced, the human being is only visible as a trace.
